what's your name

The DeBarges was the world's first exposure to the talented siblings (outside of Bobby and Tommy's involvement with Switch).  penned by Bunny, Bobby, and El, this lead single failed to chart, but left their potential unquestioned.  the obvious Jackson family likeness of this group helped Motown through a particularly slow period of sales.

Bizarre Tribe - Runnin'

A groovy mashup of A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde by Amerigo Gazaway

just like a baby

There's a Riot Goin' On confirmed the death of the '60s.  A response to Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On, the Family Stone's fifth studio effort contains some dark social commentary.  Lead man Sly recorded many of the vocal tracks whilst lying in bed, lending a detached performance to match the cynical lyrics.  The sonic texture is dominated by Larry Graham's funky bass licks, Sly's impeccable synth tones, and peak-induced distortion.  It's hard to pick one song from the 12-track LP; every cut is gem.

django django - hail bop

Black Ivory was a group from Harlem consisting of Leroy Burgess, Stuart Bascombe, and Russell Patterson. Larry Blackmon of Cameo played drums with this trio. you might know this track as the sample from Raekwon and Ghostface Killah's "Criminology"
